If I had £1 for every time I heard someone say this to me since I was in my mid-twenties I’d be nearly as rich as if I had a £1 for every time I heard someone say (including myself) “ I want to lose weight BUT …………….. “ What really gets my back up is th...is …………………… Out for a night out and I’m driving or choosing not to drink, the amount of people who are so quick to say, ”oh how boring”, or “why aren’t you having a drink”, or “what a shame you are driving”, everyone giving their opinion as to why I’m not having a drink. Do I give my opinion as to why, they are having a drink “oh wow aren’t you so exciting for drinking tonight” or ”why the hell are you drinking then”, “ what’s wrong with you, why do you need to have a drink”, or “such as shame you are NOT driving” – I hope you see where I’m going with this. When the roles are reversed it seem really weird – it’s just not stuff we say, but when we are not drinking we get given a hard time. If you are looking to drop fat fast the alcohol has to go, I think we all know that by now. If you are, or have been a regular drinker you may have given friends a hard time for not joining in with you. WHY give them grief for wanting to get a better body. Maybe now you are getting the same off friends and family because you are trying to cut out the booze. There are two ways to look at this: If you are on the road to fatloss, don’t let your mates distract you. Be strong enough to say NO. Chances are they probably have their own weight issues, but why should they bring you down. Why are we so boring for not having a drink and what makes them so exciting for having a drink. What’s exciting about making a fool of yourself/waking up with and hangover and craving carbs and crap food the following day and still not fitting in your jeans – doesn’t sound exciting to me. The exciting bit is seeing that weight come off and slipping into your favourite clothes! If you have been one of those people who have given others a hard time for not having a drink, stop and think before you open your mouth again. They are probably trying really hard to achieve their goals and don’t need someone giving their opinion and telling them how boring they are. How much effort does it take to say,” Well done I admire your dedication/motivation”. I made a decision in my mid-twenties to stop downing the Wine, Malibu and Coke the Southern Comfort and Lemonade and the Peach schnapps! I moaned to my mum that my clothes didn’t fit and she said “it’s all that drink” for once I listened. I stopped drinking and lost weight and got in better shape. My friends used to say – oh it’s alright for you! Why is it alright for me – I bust my backside in the gym, I don’t drink and I watch what I eat, yes its bloomin hard work and a constant battle but 10 + years on I’m still doing it. I enjoy the odd glass of wine now and again with a nice meal and am a sucker for a nice glass of champagne, baileys at Christmas and a few other bits and bobs, but in general I steer clear. I still strive to look better/leaner/fitter but know I am without the horrible TOXIN of alcohol inside me and know my goals would be even harder to reach if I regularly indulged in the booze. GOOD LUCK IN YOUR FATLOSS JOURNEY AND DON’T LET YOUR MATES PULL YOU DOWN.
When I drink I don't drive and whenever I drink I don't drive. Honestly, I am not a drinker and I drink very occasionally that's why after taking a bottle or 3 I feel dizzy. When I do, I just have to take a cab and leave my car at the parking lot and come back to get it the next day.
